When you book a hotel reservation online?
Jeff asked:
When you book a hotel reservation online and they ask for your credit card info, are they actually charging your card or are they just using the card # to reserve the room? The reason I ask is I would like to use a credit card that is currently maxed out, but by the time I actually take the trip, it will have enough money to charge the amount. Anyone know how hotel reservations work?

it depends some compnay dont charge bt most of the compnay charge u they dont charge
Check with the hotel, but usually they are just taking the number so if you don’t turn up they can charge the first night fee.
What happens is that they authorize usually first nights stay. What we usually do when we travel is us our credit card to make the reservation with then use our bank card to check out. One other note they keep a authorization on your credit card up to 7 days for incidentals.
There are two possibilities, and to figure out which, you need to pay attention, and read what you’re agreeing to.
In most cases, they are taking your info so that they can hold the room. That will usually (again, read the information given) mean you’ll lose the first night rent unless you cancel by the time given (often 4pm on the day of the stay). But nothing will be charged to your card until the date of the stay.
However, in some cases, usually bulk sellers like Expedia or similar, they will offer an ‘Internet only rate’, which will mean you are paying in full for the room, for the full stay, in advance. In those cases, they are charging right now.
So read what you’re agreeing to, and you should be fine.
